Frequently Asked Questions

The basic car insurance policies are Third-Party Liability, Comprehensive, Personal Accident, and Assistance. Third-Party Liability (compulsory civil liability insurance) covers damages caused to other road users and is legally required for every registered vehicle. Comprehensive is optional protection for your car against damage, theft, and random events. Personal Accident covers the consequences of unfortunate accidents for the driver and passengers. Assistance provides roadside assistance in case of breakdown or accident. Only Third-Party Liability is mandatory; you choose the other policies according to your own needs.

Under Polish law, the third-party liability insurance policy is tied to the vehicle, not the owner. After selling a car, the third-party liability insurance transfers to the new owner, who can use it until the end of the coverage period or cancel it. As the seller, you are obligated to inform your insurer about the vehicle's sale within 14 days and provide the buyer's details. The policy taken over with the car does not automatically renew for the next year, so the new owner should compare offers in advance and obtain their own insurance.

Yes. Every owner of a registered vehicle is legally required to have valid liability insurance, even if the car is not in use and is parked in a garage. Coverage must be continuous, without a single day of interruption. The Insurance Guarantee Fund (UFG) imposes fines for failing to maintain third-party liability insurance.

The amount of the penalty is calculated by the UFG and depends on the type of vehicle and the length of the coverage gap. The penalty is tied to the minimum wage, so it changes every year; the longer the gap, the higher the fee. Additionally, if you cause damage without valid liability insurance, the Fund will pay compensation to the injured party but will then seek reimbursement of the entire amount paid from you.

Each insurance company sets its own liability insurance premium. Factors affecting the premium include the driver’s insurance and claims history (the bonus-malus system of discounts and surcharges), age and driving experience, place of residence, and the vehicle’s make, model, and engine power. Prices for the same policy can vary significantly among insurers, so it’s a good idea to compare several offers before purchasing.

Simply enter the vehicle and driver information and compare offers from several insurance companies side by side. When comparing, pay attention not only to the price, but also to the range of additional services, such as roadside assistance, and any available discounts. The comparison itself is free and non-binding; you only pay for the policy you choose.

Third-party liability insurance is typically purchased for 12 months. The policy renews automatically for another year unless you cancel it at least one day before the end of the coverage period and have paid the full premium. The exception is a policy that came with a purchased car, which does not renew automatically. To avoid a gap in coverage or duplicate insurance, it’s a good idea to keep track of the deadline and compare offers before renewing.

Yes, in the situations provided for in the Compulsory Insurance Act. You can cancel the policy no later than one day before the end of the coverage period to prevent it from renewing automatically. As the new owner of a car, you have the right to cancel the liability insurance you inherited from the previous owner at any time. You must submit your cancellation notice in writing to your insurer.
